Who are we?

We are Lakeside Community Church – a family that wants to grow in our relationship with Jesus and each other. We are a friendly, upbeat, relevant place where young families, and the young at heart, can come to discover and worship God. Lakeside Community Church is located in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada – the heart of the Shuswap.

What we believe

The Great Commandment

“Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart…soul… and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets depend on these two commandments.” – Matthew 22:37-40

The Great Commission

“Jesus said, Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28: 19-20

What a church believes and stands for is important. The messages the Pastor gives and the things taught in seminars, during Kidzone and TeenZone are based on a set of core values. Here are the basic beliefs at Lakeside:

  • We believe in the inspiration of the Bible. It’s God’s letter to us.
  • We believe there is only one God and that He exists in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • We believe Jesus is God, was born of a virgin, that He never sinned and that He performed miracles.
  • We believe Jesus’ death is the only means for the forgiveness of our sins.
  • We believe that salvation is a gift of grace from God that we receive by faith.
  • We believe in the ongoing guidance of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ is coming back again in power and glory.
  • We believe that the new life in Christ is shown by an obedience to the known will of God as revealed in the Bible.
  • We believe that God, through His Holy Spirit, gives us the strength to live a full and satisfying life as a Christian.

Core Values

  • Doing a few things well
  • Responsive to community needs
  • Effective framework for leadership, mentoring and training
  • Seeking the heart of God
  • Small Groups
  • Social Events

How to get involved

There are lots of ways to get involved at Lakeside.  For us relationships are more important than programs.  Your first encounter with Lakeside people may be Sunday morning at a service or Wednesday at Youth or throughout the week in various places of work or play in our community.  Wherever  that happens, our hope is that you will find a place to connect with someone and build a friendship.  Even more important, that you will find that through those encounters you will come to know Jesus.  Lakeside isn’t about a building (we don’t own one), it is about a people who are discovering what it means to know Jesus in a transforming friendship that touches every part of our lives.

Here are some suggestions for times to begin making connections – with God and other people:

Sunday Mornings

Most Sunday mornings we meet at Hillcrest Elementary School at 10 AM. view map . In August we meet at the Gazebo at Marine Park by beautiful Shuswap Lake.

LIFE Groups

LIFE Groups are a place where you can get plugged deeper into community at Lakeside. Most groups meet weekly in homes and average 4-12 people in attendance.  The focus is on building friendships and growing in our relationship with God.   There are a number of LIFE Group options each week.  Check out our groups.

Life Transfomation Partnerships (Mentoring, Accountability)

“A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.  Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12

A Life Transformation Group (LTG) is a simple way to release the most essential elements of a vital spiritual walk to people who need Jesus to change their lives from the inside out. It fosters transformation at the heart level and empowers believers at any spiritual level to accomplish the radical work of reproducing spiritual disciples who can in turn reproduce others. Authentic community and radical obedience to Jesus provides the right soil for the beginning of life transformation.

What does it look like?

  • Group of 2 or 3: You and a couple of friends meeting once a week to talk about Jesus and experience Him together, while considering how to impact the world around you.
  • One Hour: Meet for about one hour each week.
  • Same gender: This allows for more authenticity.
  • No Leader: You all learn together as equals.
  • A Simple Plan: Each LTG will be provided with a brochure that contains a simple outline for how these groups should function.

Compassionate Ministries:

A big part of who we are and what we see God calling us to do is to reach out with compassion to those who are less fortunate.  Things like Knock Out Hunger, Back to School Haircuts, Food Hampers, Operation Christmas Child, working with children in Mexico are some of the ways that we are responding to needs.
