Worship Fully

Worship Fully is the last sermon in the Advent Conspiracy series and last message of Advent. Pastor Ken looks at Simeon (a man in Jerusalem who was righteous and devout) and Anna (a very old prophetess who was the daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher) in Luke 2:21-40 as examples of people who worshipped fully.
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you now dismiss your servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared in the sight of all people,
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles
and for glory to your people Israel.”—Luke 2:29-32

What’s in a Name?

Pastor Ken continues the Advent Conspiracy series with What’s in a Name?
20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will be with child and will
give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.”
—Matthew 1:20-23, NIV84
In verse 21 Joseph is told by the angel to “give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” which fulfills what the Lord prophesied through Isaiah in Isaiah 7:14: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel“.
At the end of Matthew’s gospel, we are reminded by Jesus that he is Immanuel, God with us, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Advent Conspiracy
Welcome to the Advent Conspiracy. Yes conspiracy theorists among us – there are some people who believe that it doesn’t have to be this way. That instead of the focus on rampant consumerism, we can focus on giving Presence rather than just presents. At Lakeside, we truly believe that people need more than the latest electronic gadgets, big screen TVs or new clothes (especially new socks!). What people need is the Presence of Christ in their lives and the Hope that only He can give.
Here are two ways that we can give the gift of Presence this year:
- The Advent Conspiracy: For the month of December we will focus on worshipping fully, spending less, giving more and loving all. We are asking people to consider buying ONE LESS GIFT this Christmas. Just one. Sounds insignificant, yet many who have taken this small sacrifice have experienced something nothing less than a miracle: they have been more available to celebrate Christ during the Advent Season. We are challenging the congregation to buy “bricks” to help build safe facilities for children in the care of Safe Care International in Mexico. It costs about $1 per brick. Let’s see if we can help to build a wall that helps make a difference in the lives of these children and families. Check out: Advent Conspiracy for more info.
- “Unlimited Presence!” Give the gift of Presence to neighbors, friends and families in our community who need to hear this message of hope. Our annual Christmas Open House will feature a full turkey dinner with all the fixings. We will be telling the story of the Hope that Jesus brings through music, drama and words. This is a great opportunity to work together as a church family to be a blessing to our community. Invite your friends, donate your time or food for the dinner. It’s our gift to the community. Contact the office and let us know how you will be involved.
