Rise Up! Intro

Apr 30, 2011   //   Jayson   //   Rise Up  //  No Comments

We don’t talk nearly enough about the resurrection even though it is absolutely central to our faith.

Following Easter Sunday’s message Pastor Ken Dryden will spend the next few weeks reflecting on the resurrection in Rise Up! How The Resurrection Changes Everything. It will focus not only on the historical event of the resurrection but the implications of the resurrection.  These implications are not only for life after death but for our lives right now as followers of the risen Christ. You don’t want to miss it!

THUG LIFE ENTRY: By Alexander & Mac

Apr 4, 2011   //   Pastor Dustin Laird   //   Mexico  //  1 Comment

APRIL FOOLZ HOMIE!!!

Another April Foolz here and gone with plenty of laughter, frustration and kicks to the shins. Jokes ranging from water balloons, silly love notes, water down backs of shirts and Breyden’s shins colliding with Alexander’s feet, many times over!

THUG LIFE! THUG LIFE! THUG LIFE! THUG LIFE! THUG LIFE! THUG LIFE! THUG LIFE!

Anyways…

We later did work around the mission for the morning. The work consisted mainly of small tasks, such as; pulling weeds and what-not. Later we decided to go to the beautiful beaches of Mexico. Howie told us about a beach he knew of that no one went to and it was beautiful, so he guided us. We drove around rough dirt roads, because apperantly the only paved roads in Mexico is the main highways and they’re not always completely paved. As we followed Howie we make a couple wrong turns and Howie had to stop and ask a fellow  for directions to the beach. We finally got on the right path and it was rough, the potholes were emense. We then came  upon a bridge… or a quarter of one. We stopped at the bridge and a man on a bicycle came riding past us in the opposite direction, he for some strange reason had a pitch fork. It was getting very foggy as we drove farther away from civilization and closer to ‘DEATH BEACH©’. The fog was getting thick as the group travelled farther through the dunes and closer to their utter demise. There were many articals of clothing from the past victims of ‘DEATH BEACH©’. They finally arrived at their destination and it was nothing like what they had been informed of.  It was foggy and misserable. The water was cold and the caution flag was up, so swimming was not advised. So a few of the group members decided to wade in the water, mid shin deep. Alexander assembled a KR3W, consisting of Dustin and Corrina, who braved the cold piercing water in the shallows. Then a few of the gang chose to take a gander farther down the creepy beach. They found lots of shells and even more bugs that resembles fleas almost. They were savages who climbed all over their bodies and it took an army of men, and women to fight them off.  But then on a much happier note Mac & I decided to dig a giant pit of DOOM!!!!!! :D Then after Liz and Alexander had an epic battle of sand, which resulted in Mac losing sight in his right eye!!! He can see now though which is grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreATE!!!!

SKIPPING A FEW HOURS ‘TILL NIGHT  TIME!!!!!

The whole group gathered around the fire and (Side note: Saul replied “Say to david…”*end of side note*) we then all took turns saying where we were before the trip with our walk with God and where we were during the trip and what we would like to see in the future of our spititual life.It was a really amazing night being able to see where everyone was in there walk with God and how they have heard from him this past week. All together the day was pretty swell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday, April 2nd!!!

We left the mission at 8:30 in the morning on our way back to Ensenada. It was about a 2 and a half our drive back to Wayne and Claires house. We arived at there place and Clarie made us and amazing lunch of lasagna!!!!!!! Little fun fact for you all Lasagna is Alexanders favorite food. Mmmm tasty!!!! We then went to a work camp with extreme low standardes of living worse than we had see the whole trip. There were 7 women at this camp to watch a total of 30 kids the whole day and all the families had practically nothing. They were given small rooms for whole families some rooms didn’t even have doors. It was so sad, there was this small boy who must have been 2 years old who didnt even have shoes on his feet. He was stacking rocks in the dirt beside a 10 foot deep hole full of trash. That will probably be the highlight of his whole week, I don’t know what I would be able to look forward to in a situation like that. We have it so good in Canada and we take everything for granted, it changed my whole perspective on poverty. We left there feeling like we needed to do somthing for the people at the work camp. We went back to Wayne and Claire’s to make a whole heap of peanut butter and jam sandwiches. We also made them up food bags with rice, beans, cooking oil, oranges, and we also supplied them with some diapers. The whole experience of bringing them stuff they needed was amazing.

Sunday, April 3rd

We had a bit of a sleep in an instead of waking up a 6:30, we woke up at 8:30. It was quite a change and we had a bit of a rest. We then left Wayne and Claire’s house on our drive back to a place where we would be able to flush our toilet paper down the toilet! We went on a few hour drive to the border. Before we arived at the border we stopped for a lunch break at this sketch gas station that sold burritos. The burritos were pretty much beef stew wrapped up in a tortilla, mmmm tasty! We then had a smooth passing though the border into the USA!!!! We drove straight from there to this really nice beach inSan Diego were we stayed and jumped in the waves. So much fun!!! :) Then Josh hurt his ankle in the water so we had to cut our beach visit short…. Which is A-OKAY because we love and care about him. Kim Sweeten the nurse told the whole KR3W that Josh should probably be taken to the ER because his foot looked mangled and swollen. We first went to the hotel to sort out the medical insurance and ended up being on the phone for a loooooooooooooooooooooong time. After that Dustin, Josh and I, Alexander, went to the ER. (Side note: Hospitals in the USA are super quick and take no time at all.) We were at the hospital for a total of two hours. The X-ray showed that Josh fractured his foot and the tendon was just screwed up. They didnt put a cast on it they told us to wait till we were back in SA so the swelling could go down. So instead of a cast they gave Josh a really pointless brace and perscribed him vikaden and 600mg ibuprofen. After that we had to search around San Diego for a 24 hour pharmacy to buy some meds. We finally found one and they said it would be a half hour for them to fill he perscription, so we waited. (Side note: They seem to not sell BITS & BITES anywhere in Mexico or the USA. NOW THATS JUST WACK BRO!!!!!)  We finally got back to the hotel around 11:15 and we were ust pooped.

Monday, April. 4th

Today, the 4th of April, we all went to the Belmont amousment park. It was a glorious, sunny day and it felt like God was repaying us for our good deeds. We made our way down to the medical supply store to pick up a wheelchair for Josh. We got a bit lost so we had to stop and ask someone for directions. After Kim had talked to a friendly employee at Subway we continued on our journey to the medical supply store. 2 turns later we arrived at ‘Eric’s Medical Supplies’, we got a wheelchair, and like a baby, we headed out. We continued to Belmont Park and everyone was in awe. There were palm trees, beachs, nice sports cars and then we gazed upon the fun filled park of fun. We got our wristbands and then like the Red Sea, we parted. There were so many fun things to do. There was a ”Lazer Maze”. It was so overwhelming, most of us had never seen anything like it. We made a line and waited patiently, but anxiously, to take our turn to try out the Mission Impossible-esque laser dodging spectacule. It was quite the cardio work out to race against the clock and try for the best time. There was also a “Mirror Maze”. It was preeeetty trippy! It felt like there were sooooooo many people in the maze, even though there were only a group of 4 or 5, because the mirrors reflected off of all the other mirrors to cause quite the illusion. The park had a janky roller coaster refurbished fro the 20′s, an arcade, mini golf, typical amousment park foods such as cotton candy, candy apples and ice cream, etc. There are so much more but time is of the essence so I, MacKenzie, must carry on. After a few hours of fun we left for the beach. It was still sunny and there were some gnarly waves to shred, that’s if I surfed. We chillaxed, swam and sun bathed for awhile. We proceeded to eat after we had spent enough time at the beach and had one last ride on the bumper cars and roller coaster.  We were all pretty fatigued after all that. The sun had really taken the energy out of us. We went back to the hotel and the rest is unimportant things such as conversing and hanging out.

Until next time, this is Mac and Alexander signing off.
